Summary:

A Moments In Time Novel

Growing up, Jason Stern led a charmed life complete with devoted sisters, a father who was one of Brooklyn’s most respected rabbis, and a mother who made the world’s best babka. He headed to NYU ready for anything—except falling for the wrong guy, coming out, and getting disowned by his once-loving family. In spite of that, Jason managed to graduate with honors. He’s got friends who treat him like family, and he’s proudly running the largest LGBTQ teen shelter in Manhattan. Life is good, but he’s still falling for the wrong men.

When charming, sexy Quinn Fitzpatrick begins work at the shelter, Jason falls hard and fast. Quinn is tall, blond, funny—damn near perfect. Only if Quinn’s gay, even he doesn’t seem to know it. If he does, he’s not telling anyone. And he’s about one ceremony away from becoming a Catholic priest.

Long hours of work turn to long nights of talking and laughter, and Jason dares to hope this time he’s falling for the right guy. But Quinn’s got a past to deal with and major decisions to make about his future. When Quinn leaves for a silent retreat, Jason knows the silence may change everything.

Story Review:

Brandilyn reviewed the eBook version here

This was the first book in the series that I hadn’t read so I was definitely looking forward to the listen. I agree with everything Brandilyn had to say and couldn’t write it better so instead I’m quoting her review.

After Moment of Clarity, I knew Collin and Tanner were done telling us their story. However, there were a few characters who still needed their stories told. Moment of Silence gives us two of those stories in one.

Moment of Silence pairs Quinn, Collin’s older brother, with Jason, the man who had an unfortunate crush on Collin during their summer on Fire Island (in Moment of Truth). You don’t strictly have to have read books one through three of the series to enjoy Moment of Silence. Both Quinn and Jason, while introduced earlier in the series, are not truly brought to life until Moment of Silence. However, you will have a richer experience if you read the first three installments. Plus, you don’t want to miss getting to know Collin and Tanner.

Jason was thrown out of his orthodox family by his Rabbi father for being gay. Quinn was all but forced into a life of service to the church, and celibacy, by an overbearing Catholic mother. They both have their demons to face. They both have to decide what they want their futures to look like.

This is a not a story of Jason’s struggle to come to terms with being thrown out. That is just a blip in his history. It is the moment that set him on the path that lead to Collin and eventually Quinn. This is also not a “small world” scenario where two men who happen to have a connection to the same person happen to meet in a city of 8.4 million people. Collin sent Quinn to Jason at his shelter of LGBTQ youth. We hear about Collin and Tanner a few times throughout the story, but not overly much. This story is completely about Jason and Quinn.

Jason and Quinn start as co-workers and then slowly evolve into more and more as the story continues. It is apparent from the opening pages that there is definite chemistry between these two. Quinn’s path is set out before him, and Jason has to determine how much of his heart he is willing to risk on someone who will likely walk away. I loved their chemistry. I loved that they took things slow. I loved that Jason was willing to take a chance for happiness, even if it likely had an expiration date. I loved that, while we all knew of that end date, it wasn’t harped on. It was the source of some of the conflict, but it didn’t hold Jason back in the least from giving his whole heart.

When Quinn took his silent journey, my heart broke with Jason’s. I agonized over the end of the relationship just as Jason did. I hoped for the best but expected the worst. There was no guarantee of a happily ever after for these two. While Looking at Quinn through Jason’s eyes, I couldn’t help but fall in love and hope for nothing more than Jason and Quinn for life. However, I knew Quinn had to make the right decision for himself. He had to be comfortable with his end game. I love that Quinn took that time, even if Jason had to suffer for it.

There was nothing impulsive with this couple. Except maybe that first kiss… They were considering and considerate every step of the way. They were also hot as hell together. Quinn had a lot to learn, but he obviously had some pretty explicit fantasies to live out along the way. There was a point that I wondered if we really “needed” all the sex. I think some people will say there is too much, but much of the readership will enjoy it. While there was one scene that I wondered if we needed, I think we learned something about Quinn and Jason, either separately or as a couple, with each mating. That is what makes it a true erotic romance, and not just porn with (or without) a plot.

Well done Ms. Stivali.

Narration Review:

Robert Nieman once again did an amazing job with the narration. At first it was jarring hearing Collin’s voice for Jason but eventually I got swept up in the story. Thanks to the wonderful narration I was totally absorbed in the tale.
