Stefan Joss just can’t win. Not only does he have to go to Texas in the middle of summer to be the man of honor in his best friend Charlotte’s wedding, but he’s expected to negotiate a million-dollar business deal at the same time. Worst of all, he’s thrown for a loop when he arrives to see the one man Charlotte promised wouldn’t be there: her brother, Rand Holloway.

Stefan and Rand have been mortal enemies since the day they met, so Stefan is shocked when a temporary cease-fire sees the usual hostility replaced by instant chemistry. Though leery of the unexpected feelings, Stefan is swayed by a sincere revelation from Rand, and he decides to give Rand a chance.

But their budding romance is threatened when Stefan’s business deal goes wrong: the owner of the last ranch he needs to secure for the company is murdered. Stefan’s in for the surprise of his life as he finds himself in danger as well.

My View:

Despite being a major fan of Mary Calmes Timing is one of the few books of hers I haven’t read. When a new edition came available I jumped at the chance and boy am I glad I did.

This book is classic Calmes with Stefan and Rand as one of the best alpha/beta couples I’ve read in a long time. Their frenemies to lovers tale is perfect. The chemistry between them was evident from the start and how Stefan couldn’t tell Rand was in love with him is a mystery.

In addition to an unforgettable couple there are also some really great supporting characters here. That’s one thing Calmes does particularly well—the supporting cast. She creates realistic and lovable family members. In Timing I particularly loved Charlotte, Stefan’s best friend and Rand’s sister. Not only is the dialogue between her and Stef outstanding but their obvious love for each other is equally great.

At one point in the story Charlotte and Stef discuss an event in their past at the words and actions were so realistic I could picture it like a movie. Additionally, their story made me cry which isn’t something that happens often.

Definitely a great read.
