After trading the barracks for a fixer-upper rental, navy SEAL Zack Nelson wants peace, not a roommate—especially not Pike, who sees things about Zack he most wants to hide. Pike’s flirting puts virgin Zack on edge. And the questions Pike’s arrival would spark from Zack’s teammates about his own sexuality? Nope. Not going there. But Zack can’t refuse.

Pike Reynolds knows there won’t be a warm welcome in his new home. What can he say? He’s an acquired taste. But he needs this chance to get his life together. Also, teasing the uptight SEAL will be hella fun. Still, Pike has to tread carefully; he’s had his fill of tourists in the past, and he can’t risk his heart on another, not even one as hot, as built—and, okay, yeah, as adorable—as Zack.

Living with Pike crumbles Zack’s restraint and fuels his curiosity. He discovers how well they fit together in bed…in the shower…in the hallway… He needs Pike more than he could have imagined, yet he doesn’t know how to be the man Pike deserves.

Thank you so much for hosting me today! OFF BASE is the first book in my OUT OF UNIFORM series, which is a stand-alone spin-off from my #gaymers universe. I knew I wanted to do more SEAL heroes, like Ryan from CONNECTION ERROR, and I thought his group of friends might be the perfect jumping off place for a new series. I figured I’d focus on already-out men and their trials and tribulations getting to their HEAs. But then, while writing CONNECTION ERROR, Zack, a younger SEAL captured my attention with this brief appearance:

“Say hey to my new roommate, Zack,” Ryan said, gesturing at the bed on the other side of the divider curtain. A guy around Josiah’s age, maybe a bit younger, lay there with what looked like a broken leg. “Zack, this is the boyfriend I was telling you about.”

“The one who works for Space Villager?” The kid’s eyes were wary yet hopeful.

“Yup. Do you have an email address? I can send you some freebies if you want?”

“Sure.” The kid shook his head. “My dad says not to hang around gay people, but man, I can’t turn down free shit.”

Josiah got considerably less enthusiastic about handing over Space Villager upgrades.

“Your dad’s an idiot,” Ryan said mildly.

“The farther I get from Little Rock, man, the more I agree.” Zack laughed as he wrote down his information for Josiah.

Suddenly, Zack was demanding a book of his own, and I somehow knew that Pike, another #gaymers character with a very brief appearance in the series, would be perfect for turning his world upside down. Unlike the other men of the OUT OF UNIFORM series, Zack isn’t out yet and hasn’t figured out a path forward for his life. It’s going to take some serious soul searching for him to find a way toward the happiness he deserves in life.

Following along with Zack on his journey was one of the most heart-wrenching and exhilarating experiences I’ve had as a writer. I loved the process of him revealing his true self to me—and Pike—the animal loving, deeply passionate, funny, charming, loyal parts of himself that he’s kept under wraps for years. The book really is about Zack discovering and embracing his whole self. I can’t wait for you to meet him in OFF BASE, and I hope you enjoy my SEALS in this new series.
