In the aftermath of the accident that revealed his identity, famous superhero Captain Hart has gone missing. His best friend Bruce waits anxiously for any sign of him, any clue as to where Leo Hart might have gone—even though he knows full well he’s not the only one looking, and that it might be best for Leo to stay gone. Then Leo returns, and Bruce starts to wonder whether it will be the good thing he expected it to be.
I’m not too sure how I feel about this book to be honest. I’m not very crazy about it. I feel like it misrepresented the transgender community by making light of the fact that the alien bite one character got transformed him from a girl into a man with superpowers.
The story is that. A trans, Leo, is bitten by a dog outside a medical research facility and changed from a girl to a man with superpowers. He saves America from an alien race trying to take over the world. His roommate and best friend, Bruce, has noticed the changes have not been for the better. As Bruce struggles to help Leo remain who he is, Leo finds out that there are more aliens out there and they are still trying to take over. As they end up taking them down, Bruce ends up being bitten by the same dog and almost dies. The doctors also reveal that the ‘poison’ in Leo is wearing his body down. An alien who wants peace gives them an antidote and it changes Leo back to his original state. During all this Bruce has discovered, although he is asexual, that he loves Leo no matter what form he is in and Leo learns to be true to himself and not worry about being more than he is.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
