It takes a pissed-off Brahma bull named Shockwave to show rodeo pickup man Marty Fairgrave the cold hard truth about champion bull rider Tripp Colby: Tripp will never leave the safety of his closet or acknowledge Marty in public. Sometimes loving someone just isn’t enough, and after a year of hiding what they are, Marty finally sees the light—and it’s no longer shining on Tripp.
Tripp Colby would do anything for Marty. Well . . . almost. He’s never loved anyone before, and isn’t quite sure how to handle it now. But he knows Marty is his everything, and in order to win him back, Tripp will have to overcome his darkest fears and step into the light.
But no matter Tripp’s intentions, the cost might be too high and the effort too late for these two cowboys to ride off into the sunset.
Did you miss me? I know, I know it has been a while since I have imparted my wisdom on you about the wonderful world of books. I have been reading heavily, just took a bit of a break from the writing of reviews. You can find some short reviews in my Goodreads account.
So now for the reason we are all here.. What did I think about Pickup Men by LC Chase?
Hot Cowboys coming to terms with how they fit in the world after a traumatic childhood that left lasting scares. Heart-wrenching and super hot. Tripp Colby is at the top of the Rodeo world. But he lives deep in the closet. He isn’t self-loathing or anything like that, he knows he is gay and he is involved in a monogamous relationship with Marty… Until his fears cost him said relationship. The problem lies in Tripp’s past. He is so fearful of people finding the real him that he lets down Marty in a major way. Can he find his way past his fears and back to Marty?
Chase takes on an emotional (some might say angsty) trip out of the closet and into the world as an openly gay cowboy and HEA. It is told in 3rd person from both Marty and Tripp’s point of views. You see the anguish that can be caused on both sides by bigotry and hate. Finally you see love conquering all.
Gay Cowboys are a popular trope because come one 2 hot alpha males coming together, HAWT! Pickup Men is supposed to be the first of a series and there were points that you knew it was setting itself up for future books… Can anyone say Bridge and Evan??? I see some gay-for-you in our future…
I would like to thank Riptide and NetGalley for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
