If you are on my facebook, then you have seen me allude to the changes down the pipe for Brandilyn Reviews Books. Namely, we won’t be Brandilyn Reviews Books anymore. As of 1 Jan 2014, We will be re-launching as Prism Book Alliance. You can see a preview of out new logo below. It is designed by the fabulously talented Catherine Dair.
Why the change? Well there are a number of reasons.
- I was never happy with the name. I actually really liked my original blog name, Building Carpenters, but it didn’t fit with the direction I took the blog (not to mention the insane amount of construction related spam I started receiving). So I went to rename it to something more bookish… well after my first 6 names were already taken, I decided on BRB. Well then I realized it was uncomfortably close to 2 other blogs that I love to read. I could deal with it until #2 happened.
- It isn’t just me anymore. I have added some similarly-minded friends to help bring you more great reviews of the books that I so love. While I love that you guys know me a Brandilyn Reviews Books, I couldn’t go to Brandilyn & Friends (because that is EXACTLY like my friends over at Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books go check them out. They are some of the sweetest people you will meet and they write some rockin’ reviews), and I couldn’t find anyway that didn’t make me cringe to add my friends into my existing title.
- I want to be able to make a bigger impact. Not for myself, but for the authors I love. I have gotten to know many of these authors through the wonders of social media. They really are genuinely good people that are talented as hell. That talent should be rewarded. This blog is just my small part to help do that.
So how did we come up with the new name? Well lots of discussion, trial and error, DNS checking, a few laughs, and some good friends.
Is there a meaning behind the new title? Yes. We wanted something that was inclusive, without being overly wordy. We don’t just read M/M Romance. In fact, at least 3 of use list Eric Arvin among our favorite authors. If you haven’t read Arvin’s work (go do it now!) his works transcend the M/M Romance genre. If you had to classify them they are Gay Literature… but really they are just beautiful and moving fantasy stories that happen to have Gay characters. So we wanted to reflect that we focused on GLBTQ literature without limiting ourself to just M/M romance (though that is the vast majority of what you are likely to find here). We chose Alliance for a few reasons. First of all, we are geeks that way. Secondly, an alliance is a group of people who work together to further a common cause. For us that cause the GLBTQ literature.
What can I expect? Well in January we have a party planned. There will be author interviews, giveaways, and much more. So, mark your calendars… Going forward we plan to have some regular fun posts for you. For one thing, I am looking forward to the perspective our little international and diverse group.
Who are the “new reviewers”? They are friends I have made along the way through the Facebook and/or Goodreads M/M romance communities. I will let them introduce themselves more formally in January. But for now, join me in welcoming BJ, Marc, Shelby, Caroline, Marco, Optimist, Lirtle, and Kim.
I am an author and I want to join the fun. How? Well that is easy, there is a contact us page at the top. Alternatively, you may contact me directly at brandilynreviewsbooks AT gmail DOT com
I have a number of paperbacks, most of which are signed, to giveaway. Over the between now (11 Mar 2017) and 31 Mar 2017, every comment on the blog (this post and all other new posts), will be entered to win 1 of these paperbacks. There are also some misc swag items, so there will be a few packs of these to give away as well.
Thank you so much for your support over the last 4 years. Prism will be closing its doors on 1 April 2017. All content will remain available, but no new content will appear after 31 Mar 2017. As such all request forms have been turned off. Again Thank you,
