Ladies and Gentlemen – I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Wills Matheson.
Although I had met him before in the “Spy vs. Spook” series I had no clue I was going to fall in love with him until I read Pick Up the Pieces.

The Light in Your Eyes: Book One
A Spy vs Spook Novel
Fifteen-year-old Theo Bascopolis longs for the man of his dreams. But his dreams are dashed when his conservative Greek father discovers Theo is gay and throws him out. Hopeless, he falls in with Fast Franky, a pimp who seduces Theo with the nickname “Sweetcheeks,” but abuses him and wants Theo to hustle. A bloody fight with Franky forces Sweetcheeks to run. Winding up in Washington, DC, he meets a group of rent boys who take care of each other. While he may not have the man of his dreams, Theo finally has a home and family of his own making.
When the boys take in mysterious tenant Mark Vincent, he seems a solid protector, until one of Sweetcheeks’s boys suffers a savage beating in his name. Vincent visits the boy in the hospital and introduces his equally enigmatic trainee, William Matheson. The instant attraction blindsides Sweetcheeks. In spite of knowing love isn’t for rent boys, Sweetcheeks hopes Matheson sees beyond the body he’s offered to so many. But Matheson has secrets of his own, and both will have to tear down their walls to find enduring love.
I have a lot to say about this story but I will try to keep it brief. After I finished reading it this morning I spent most of the day preoccupied with thoughts of Theo and Wills. I thought about how the two of them are quite an interesting couple, and how they have some secrets that will need to be handled before they are able to ride off into the sunset together. Since it is labeled as Book One in the “Light in Your Eyes” series I know that there will be more to come for the two of them – and I am really glad about that. Their story is not nearly finished to my satisfaction.
If you haven’t read the “Spy vs. Spook” books I highly recommend doing it before you read this one. Although it’s not necessary in order to understand or enjoy this story, it will add so much more to the experience. In the “Spy vs. Spook” books the stories are told from the perspective of each character – you really get inside their heads and understand a lot about them and their jobs. Since this one is told solely from Theo’s perspective I found it added a lot to the story knowing what I did about Wills from the other books. Also, the timelines are congruent and so you get another layer of information that combines with the layers from the “Spy vs. Spook” books. It all added up to a very enjoyable experience.
Now is when I swoon about Wills Matheson. I have to say Tinnean has created a hero with him that has captured my heart. He is adorable – sorry but the description fits. If I were a teenage girl I would say “Totes Adorbs!” I would wear a t-shirt with his picture on it that says “Totes Adorbs!” I would create a tumblr site in his honor, and it would feature many animated gifs of him that I copied from someone else because I have no idea how to make an animated gif. He is caring, sweet, lethal and a super sexy secret agent. What more could you ask for? I love him! I am looking forward to spending more time with him and Theo. I have said this before but it is worth repeating, Tinnean creates endearing characters who give their hearts away shamelessly. Theo is also a rich character with a story that broke my heart, but then sweet Wills came to fix it.
I loved this book and I cannot wait until I read the next one.
I would like to thank Tinnean/Dreamspinner Press for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
