Sweet Giordan, Please Remember is magic … pure and wonderful magic!

Author: Raine O’Tierney

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

Giordan Stone is lucky, all things considered. Sure, he spent five years in a coma only to wake with a right leg that’s practically useless and no memories other than his name. But now he’s under the care of sassy southern surrogate mother, Chloe Devereaux, spending his days painting and healing. Giordan wants for nothing at all… until he looks out the window one morning and sees Chloe’s gorgeous son, Shane, standing there. Something very familiar stirs in Giordan.

When he sketches, Giordan is able to go into an “art trance” where pieces of disjointed memory come back to him without time or place. More and more of these flashes are of Shane Devereaux and the intense, intimate experiences they shared together. Even though Shane keeps his distance now, Giordan is convinced his flashes are real. But he doesn’t have the whole story. Giordan is determined to fill in his memory blanks and convince Shane his feelings are genuine.

My View

I settled in to read Raine O’Tierney’s newest book Sweet Giordan, Please Remember on a Friday evening after a long day of work — and with a slight, nagging headache.  I had promised to read O’Tierney’s book and write my review, so I dismissed the talkative 14 year old son to other parts of the house, and opened up Sweet Giordan, ready to zip through the book (I’m not lying when I say I can read quite fast…).  And, oh my God, I fell in love!  I actually sniffled a few tears.  Remarkable since I’m NOT a crier (seriously … the only movie I’ve ever cried over was “Beaches” which is like a requirement for any woman over the age of 35, and I didn’t even cry at my own wedding, nor at the birth of either of my children).

Raine O’Tierney’s Sweet Giordan, Please Remember is simply that wonderful.  The concept is fresh, unique, and so very beautiful.  O’Tierney’s portrayal of Giordan, lost within the hidden memories of his own mind as he struggles to remember a love that he feels and that he simply knows is still there, is touching and more than a little heartbreaking.  Shane is such a conflicted character; rarely have I wanted to simultaneously shake a character by the shoulders for being foolish, yet fold him into a warm Mom hug in an attempt to absorb a little of the crippling hurt he carries.  Giordan’s raw desperation to remember the specifics of the night he was injured is palpable, as is Shane’s fear of being hurt again as he was when Giordan disappeared leaving Shane to wonder if he had willingly left him.  The interactions between Giordan and Shane are among the best written in the story – O’Tierney wields her magic and they are simultaneously tender, bittersweet, sad, hopeful, and loving.  The colorful, delicious character, Maman, is equally significant.  Her nurturing of a broken, frail Giordan is not only an act of motherly love for Giordan, but also for Shane, who she knows desperately loves Giordan and will only be truly happy if she can help bring him back to Shane.

O’Tierney is honestly a gifted writer, and she’s proven it with Sweet Giordan, Please Remember.  It was not only a pleasure to read this book, but it was also a rare opportunity to enjoy written artistry at its best.  It goes without saying that I highly recommend this book.  It will forever have a spot as one of my “favorites” on my Kindle, because Giordan and Shane’s love story is one that I plan to re-read from time to time when I need O’Tierney to sprinkle a tad of her mystical charm and gift me with a dose of the beauty of true and timeless love.  Buy the book, and prepare to lose your heart to Sweet Giordan, Please Remember.  I know I certainly did.
