Sweeter than a heart shaped box of chocolate bonbons! A special Valentine’s Day for JT and Brett from Unbreak My Heart …

imageTitle: Unbroken Hearts

Author: K-lee Klein

Publisher: Amber Allure

My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

JT Campbell knows Brett Taylor’s proclamation of love a few months earlier was true and honest, and Brett’s nothing if not sweet and attentive. But when the most romantic day of the year rolls around and Brett seems to be ignoring it, JT finds himself drowning in disappointment. Growing up, JT was never allowed to celebrate Valentine’s Day and was taught to reject the sappy, fake sentiments of the holiday. But would it be too much to expect Brett to at least acknowledge the day?

On top of that, JT can’t help but feel uneasy about the one huge reminder still standing on the ranch of Brett’s old lover. JT tries hard to pretend it doesn’t bother him, but he worries that as long as it’s there, Brett will never fully be able to let Walt go and move forward with JT. Can an unexpected show of love and commitment soothe JT’s fears?

My View

K-lee Klein allows us to catch up with JT and Brett from Unbreak My Heart as they celebrate their first Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t read Unbreak My Heart, you have missed something truly special. Do yourself a favor, grab a handful of tissue and spend a few hours immersed in one of the most exceptional stories I’ve recently had the joy of reading. Unbroken Hearts picks up with JT and Brett several months after they confessed their love for each other at the end of the first book. Their love has grown stronger after JT brought Brett from the depths of grief and despair following the death of Walt, his first love, and Brett has provided JT with the sense of security and love he desperately needs.

Unbroken Hearts is a Valentine’s Day novella, but considering it a simple update on JT and Brett with a holiday backdrop doesn’t nearly do it justice. K-lee Klein is so remarkably gifted in the depiction of real emotions, and her characters are rich and multi-faceted. In this story, Brett is deeply in love with JT, and he reaches beyond his past pain and to sing for JT even though he left his professional singing career behind when Walt died. The seemingly simple task of singing gives JT the incredible gift of knowing that loving JT has healed Brett’s broken heart. JT is also finally secure enough in Brett’s love to be honest that he feels the ghost of Walt’s death looming in the background of their life together every time he walks into the barn where Walt fell to his death.

This story is compelling, heartening, and full of the promise that JT and Brett face their life together with commitment and hope. It is perhaps this lingering notion that loving someone does not magically fix all old hurts, but gives the promise that together you can face a hopeful future, that makes Unbroken Hearts so uniquely special. I highly recommend that you read K-lee Klein’s Unbroken Hearts, as well as Unbreak My Heart if you have not done so. You will miss a rare treat if you don’t!
