Nothing Special by A.E. Via ~ Review by Caroline

Another hit from a relatively new author to me.

: Nothing Special

Author: A.E. Via

Publisher: Amira Press Publishing

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

Detective Cashel ‘Cash’ Godfrey is big, tattooed and angry so people typically keep their distance. He’s fresh out of the police academy, however, no one is looking to partner with the six foot four beast with a huge chip on his shoulder and an inability to trust. When Cash scans the orientation room he wasn’t expecting to find sexy hazel eyes locked onto him. Eyes of the handsome Detective Leonidis ‘Leo’ Day.

Leo is charming, witty, hilariously sarcastic and the only one that can make Cash smile. He’s proud, out and one bad-ass detective.

Together Cash and Leo become the most revered and successful narcotics detectives Atlanta’s ever seen. Able to communicate and understand each other, without even having to voice it, they quickly climb up the promotional ranks.

When Cash saves Leo’s life in a raid that turns deadly, Leo begins to see something in the big man that no one else does…something special. But Leo fears he’ll never break through the impenetrable wall that protects Cash’s heart.

Nothing Special takes the reader through various emotions throughout the richly fulfilling plot that’s full of erotic gay romance, heartache, passion, trials and tribulations, police action scenes, and an intriguing twist that comes to an amazing ending that’s impossible to see coming.

My View

I recently reviewed You Can See Me and loved it. I had high hopes for this one and was not left disappointed. This author gives us love, angst, hot men and happy ever afters…..perfect!

Cashel  Godfrey is a mountain of a man with an attitude and he can terrify with just a look. What people don’t see when they look at him is the pain that remains from his childhood and the subsequent consequences that he is still living with.

Leonidis Day is the complete opposite. Small in stature but big in mouth he is out, loud and proud with an hilarious sense of humour and a quick and snappy comeback for anyone that tries to mess with him.

When these two men meet in the squad room on their first day out of the Academy they form an instant friendship that will stand the test of time and make them one of the most successful partnerships in the force.

After being partners for 4 years Leo thinks he knows Cash pretty well so when he receives a drunken text message one evening that is out of character he immediately goes to the rescue of his best friend. Later that night when Cash has a nightmare and Leo tries to calm him he is shocked to the core at the pain he sees in his friends eyes.

Leo realises that he is crushing on his straight friend who actually may not be as straight as he thought. Never one to back down from a challenge he tells Cash of his feelings. Cash is determined he is not going to be just another notch on the bedpost but he can’t deny his feelings and tells Leo he will have to prove he wants him.

This book takes you through an emotional wringer. Cash has led such a desolate life for the last few years that you have to wonder whether he is capable of a relationship or whether he has closed himself off for too long. Leo is determined to get the big guy to open up but he has no idea of his past and very soon makes an honest but huge mistake and for the first time ever sees the other mans anger directed at him.

When an undercover operation goes wrong Cash is hit head on with his feelings and Leo is left reeling at the actions and words of his usually unemotional and stoic partner. To have the life and love that these two men deserve Cash is going to have to face his past but in a bizarre twist of fate it may just visit him first. When that happens they may just be able to get their HEA!

  1. This one is already on my list, but I do believe this is telling me to give it ye ol’ bump-up. Great review, Caroline.
