Flight of Magpies by KJ Charles ~ Book Review by Teresa

Must read third installment of A Charm of Magpies Series

Flight of Magpies Title: Flight of Magpies

Author: KJ Charles

Publisher: Samhain

Cover Artist:

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Blurb:

With the justiciary understaffed, a series of horrifying occult murders to be investigated, and a young student who is flying—literally—off the rails, magical law enforcer Stephen Day is under increasing stress. And his relationship with his aristocratic lover, Lord Crane, is beginning to feel the strain.

Crane chafes at the restrictions of England’s laws, and there’s a worrying development in the blood-and-sex bond he shares with Stephen. A development that makes a sensible man question if they should be together at all.

When a thief strikes at the heart of Crane’s home, a devastating loss brings his closest relationships into bitter conflict—especially his relationship with Stephen. And as old enemies, new enemies, and unexpected enemies paint the lovers into a corner, the pressure threatens to tear them apart.

Warning: Contains hot-blooded sex, cold-blooded murder, sinister magical goings-on and a lot of swearing.

My View:

Flight of Magpies is book 3 in the “A Charm of Magpies” series and is a great addition! Lord Crane and Mr. Day find themselves on rocky ground in their relationship while warlocks are once again murdering and causing mayhem.

I liked that this installment took a look at their relationship and how it worked. I got a great sense of why these two cared for each other and what they each brought to the table. The mystery and occult goings on were suitably grim and disturbing, but this duo was up to the task.

I love the secondary characters and the feel of the time period. K.J. Charles does a wonderful job of bringing it all to life. The love scenes were more prevalent than in the first book but not gratuitous. I loved seeing the dynamics of their relationship.

A must read for fans of the series. If you like a bit of magic with your historical romance and you haven’t read the series, start with book one; you won’t be disappointed.
