November Natterings and Surviving the Holidays ~ Outside the Margins with CJane Elliott

Join Prism Book Alliance® as CJane Elliott goes Outside the Margins today.

What shall I talk about this month? I’m not doing NaNo and Thanksgiving as a topic is far too depressing, as is the whole holiday season coming up. Every year I have to gear up to survive the holidays. I do a lot of exercising (mostly dancing), make sure I book tickets for a holiday concert, get my special wreath for the door, and ALWAYS get a Christmas tree (real) and trim it. The Christmas music CDs in my house start on Thanksgiving and don’t stop until New Year’s. I also love candles and fires in the fireplace. What are some of the ways you guys cope with the holidays?

Speaking of Christmas trees, y’all can hear about their importance in my story in the Dreamspinner Sleigh Ride anthology, which I mentioned last month. It’s called Home Is Where the Christmas Trees Are. The anthology is available for preorder here: My individual story will be found at this link as of December 1:

What else? I found out I’m a 4 on the Enneagram! The Enneagram is one of those personality templates, kind of like Myers-Briggs (ENFJ right here). And now that I’ve annoyed those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about… the Enneagram says that there are nine basic personality types. Number 4 is called The Romantic. It’s the number of the tragic individualist who no one really understands, but is creative and loves beauty, and is waiting for someone to take them away from all this. Isn’t that a perfect number for a romance writer? It also explains why I usually have angst in my stories. No one would accuse me of being unremittingly cheerful, but I always have to have my happy endings.

So that brings me to my angsty yet happily ending novella, There You Are, which comes out next month. This is the sequel to Wild and Precious and picks up the story of Cody Bellstrom, who so many of you liked from the first story and wanted to know what happened with him.

Look at this cover from AngstyG!

Isn’t it to die for?

Here’s the blurb:

Bisexual musician Cody Bellstrom is a free spirit, easygoing and unattached. On a cross-country trip, Cody befriends young Sandy Nixon and gets him safely to Portland and his uncle, Phineas MacDonald. Beautiful Phineas turns Cody’s life upside down, and Cody learns he’s not as unattached as he aspires to be. With the hard-won knowledge of what lies underneath his need to be free, Cody wins a chance at real freedom and true love.

Ever since his longtime lover Allen died, Phineas MacDonald has lived a circumscribed life. He stopped performing as fierce drag queen Phanny Hill and works part-time in a bookstore. Phineas never expected to find love again. But when sexy and caring Cody Bellstrom turns up, Phineas feels his orderly life slipping out of his control. Cody brings him alive again, but now Phineas must find the courage to let go of his grief over Allen and give love a second chance.

There You Are is due to hit Dreamspinner’s Coming Soon page tomorrow! Here is the link, which will go live for preorder on 11/23:

And… check Dreamspinner Press over the Thanksgiving holiday later this week. There are going to be some goodies on offer and one of my novellas just might be free for a day!

I’ll be back in December, and in the meantime, let me know your holiday survival techniques. I forgot to mention one more of mine – red wine… lots of red wine. Cheers!
