Shane is a little bit screwed, he’s just started college and stuck rooming with that bastard Trey. His sister’s boyfriend. His sister’s damn fine boyfriend. Uh-oh. This so wasn’t going to happen. But try as he might, there’s just a little too much to ignore between the two of them…
I first read Shane and Trey in November of 2012. At the time I gave the story 4.5 stars and was eager to continue the series. Then I never did. I finally picked the series back up recently, when I was recommended the second book in the series for a reading challenge. Despite the fact that all books in this series can easily be read as stand-alone stories, I had to go back and re-read the first book.
Shane and Trey have a convoluted path to their Happily Ever After. First of all, we start the story with Trey as Shane’s twin sister’s boyfriend. We also start the story with Shane loudly coming out of the closet to his best friend (and crush) and seeing the disgust on Trey’s face.
They are thrown together at College when they are put together in a dorm room. Of course, animosity and fear turn to interest and lust. Eventually, they turn to more. It isn’t easy when your love interest is the recent love interest of your best friend (and twin). Barriers have to be erected. Lines have to be drawn. Hearts have to be broken.
Shane & Trey is a beautiful, if twisted, coming of age and coming out story. It remains one of my favorites in the genre.
Other than a brief mention in book two, St-St-Stuffed, I am sad to say that we don’t revisit Shane and Trey, so we never know how their happily ever after turns out. I wouldn’t mind a little visit to their world, Ms. Sunday.
