Two Couples, Different Places ~ Outside the Margins with Jeff Adams

Join Prism Book Alliance® as Jeff Adams goes Outside the Margins today.

One of the things I love about writing is creating vastly different stories. I had two books released in February and they illustrate this point perfectly.

ASB A Sound Beginning was actually written first, even though it came out second. There were two primary inspirations here. Initially the plot was sparked by pictures voice over artist Jason Frazier put up on Facebook showing his recording studio. Someone had to build that custom studio and my thoughts drifted to a story that set up a contractor and his client. I’d also wanted to do a story the involved one part of the couple being a dad. I stirred all that together and came up with the story.

I enjoyed setting Diego up with a teenager. It added something different to the story as I decided how Harry would handle his potential love interest having a child. Plus, for Diego, he also had to take in to account Jayson’s feelings as he started up a new relationship. I quite like the dynamic I created between father, son and the guy who may become part of their lives. Diego’s the first time I’ve created a character who was also a parent and the outset of the relationship and I enjoyed exploring that.

MTRCLeo and Matt are a couple in a very different place. Readers of the Hat Trick series met Leo and Matt in book one and the couple were supporting characters through the series. Make the Right Choice picks up Leo and Matt’s story shortly after the tenth anniversary of when they met. They’ve got a good relationship, but they’re both pushing at the boundaries. Leo wants to marry Matt. Leo comes from a loving family with parents who’ve been together for years. Matt’s family shows love differently and it makes him question if marriage is for him. Plus Matt’s not satisfied with his job either.

I enjoyed exploring this couple at a crossroads as they looked at the tough choices of what they wanted out of life and where their relationship should go. It’s a different kind of story than I’ve written before with a look at how family, jobs and religion can play into finding happily ever after. Leo and Matt know they love each other, but they knew they needed to move on to the next step in their HEA. Fans of Hat Trick have responded great to the story, and I’m hoping those who haven’t read the series will pick this up and check out these guys’ story. There’s enough background that a new reader shouldn’t feel lost about how and why Leo and Matt became a couple.

It seems like 2016 is going to be a year of writing different types of stories than I’ve done in the past. I’m looking forward to that. Hopefully you all will enjoy it as well.
