Coffee talk with Braden at the Sugar n’ Spice Café
Luna: Thanks for inviting me down to visit. How are you doing?
Braden: blushes and smiles shyly Doing well, thanks. You?
Luna: I’m great. So, what are you baking?
Braden: glances up, wide grin on his face Coffee cake. It’s his favorite.
Luna: smiles, knowing the answer Whose?
Braden: chuckles Z’s, like you didn’t know.
Luna: Will there be enough for me to try? It’s pretty famous coffee cake, from what I understand.
Braden: I’m sure we can save a piece for you. But he’s been known to eat a whole sheet of it.
Luna: smile falls away, mouth drops open Whut?
Braden: nods and chuckles Not exaggerating. Have you seen how big my man is?
Luna: Uh, yeah. I’m 5’2”, he’s ridiculous tall.
Braden: smiles, a dreamy look in his eyes He is. You might see him in a bit. He said he might stop by to say hello.
Luna: grins Oh, good. How has he been?
Braden: blushing He’s been great.
Luna: laughing Oh lord, look at you, blushing and so smitten.
Braden: blushes darker, chuckles Knock it off!
Luna: Ok, ok… So, uh… You’re baking him coffee cake because it’s his favorite, what’s your favorite?
Braden: shrugs I can’t really choose a favorite. I love most of what I bake, but rarely eat it.
Luna: Because you’re diabetic?
Braden: No. Well. . . I mean, not really. I love what I bake mostly because of the memories I have from when I was little, baking with my grandmother and because it makes others happy. I like sweets in moderation. It’s always been like that, even before I was diagnosed. I like tasting a bite, but for me a little goes a really long way.
Luna: So how is Nana?
Braden: laughs She’s great. Just talked to her last night before she went out on another date.
Luna: She’s a firecracker.
Braden: nods she really is.
Luna: waves as Maya runs in the back
Maya: eyes wide, whispers loudly Oh my gawd! Braden! GG is here! HELP!
Braden: mouth drops open Oh… umm… I can’t! snickers I’m kinda busy entertaining!
Maya: Are you kidding me? You have to come help me get rid of him! He’s creeping out Layla!
Luna: sips last bit of coffee glances back and forth between the two best friends
Braden: You’re the one leaving her alone out there! You better go save her!
Maya: Oh, you’re so gonna get it! I can’t believe you’re gonna make me deal with him alone!
Braden: gasps in mock innocence But, I’m just the baker! You’re the face of this operation!
Maya: throws hands in the air, huffs, heads back up front You’re awful!
Braden: snorts So… glances towards the swinging door Did I ever tell you about the time we were at a gay nightclub, completely blitzed, bumping and grinding and a guy came up to us trying to hit on us both?
Luna: eyes wide No… No you didn’t.
Braden: So, we were at the ‘everything is funny’ stage of the evening. We always get really flirty and giggly with each other when we’re drunk. So we’re dancing, all up on each other, just having fun, laughing, and minding our own business and this guy sidles up to us, grinding up against Maya. But I’m so far gone I’m not paying enough attention until she pinches me hard enough to get me to look at her. Her eyes are all big and she says, “Ohhh emmm geeee, this guy is making us into a Maya sandwich! He’s poking me with his mini gherkin!” I nearly fell over; I was laughing so hard! By the time I got myself under control, I grabbed her hips, pretending he wasn’t there, and turned my back to him, keeping Maya in front of me. Next thing I know, he’s grinding up against me, it’s now a Braden sandwich, and damned if he’s not poking me with his pickle, just like she said! The creeper had a hard on for both of us. We were both equally horrified and amused. We kept trying to move away and he would eventually find us. We didn’t seem to be able to extricate ourselves from him. But I swear, it was like he had no clue we weren’t interested! Pretty sure he was playing a game of ‘hide the pickle’ and he was convinced we were all in on the fun. We kept laughing, he kept grinding, and eventually he was like, “Let’s take this back to my place!” All I could do was nod, excitedly, like I thought it was the best idea of the night. I told him we needed to settle our tab and asked him to meet us out back, because that’s where we were parked. We raced out the front door in a frenzy. We flagged down a cab just as he was coming around the front of the building waving at us. Maya gasped, pointed at him and yelled at the top of her lungs, “Go poke someone else, you Gherkin Grinder!” I’m telling you, the shocked look on his face! He was so bewildered! We’re laughing uncontrollably as we trip over each other to get into the cab. We yell at the driver to go, go, go! He took off like a bat out of hell and we’re flailing around in a tangle of arms and legs in the back, in such hysterics talking about pickle pokers and sandwich makers, we can’t even get our address out. When we finally calmed down, we were even further away from our place. We finally told him where we wanted to go and had to pay double the amount in cab fare… All because of GG!
Luna: nodding, eyes wide Gherkin Grinder.
Braden: nodding Exactly…
Zavier: walks into the kitchen smiling What has you both in stitches?
Luna: stands up to hug Zavier Braden’s just telling me the story of GG.
Zavier: grunts Ah yes, the Gherkin Grinder. Can you believe the trouble those two can get into?
Braden: smacks Zavier’s arm, playfully Hey!
Zavier: rubs arm as in in pain Hey yourself – WAIT! Is that who was out there?
Braden: Oh my god, you saw him?
Zavier: Was he the dopey looking one who was awkwardly flirting with Maya and Layla?
Braden: nodding That would be him.
Zavier: snickers Yeah, I didn’t like him bothering the ladies. I stood behind the counter and crossed my arms and stared him down. He tucked tail and ran. Took his muffin but forgot his coffee and was too scared to come back for it.
Luna: laughing All you had to do is stand there and look intimidating and he runs.
Braden: swoons My hero! grabs Zavier in an exuberant kiss
Zavier: draws Braden nearer, the kiss becoming more and more heated
Luna: clears throat On that note; it was great stopping by! I gotta get back to my writing cave. Thanks for the coffee!
Zavier and Braden: wave half-heartedly and continue kissing each other

About the Author
Luna David is a wife, a mother of twins, and now, an author. When she’s not begging her little ones to stop–throwing things, hitting each other, pulling the cat’s tail, having meltdowns, screaming, eating stuff off the floor, yelling at each other, playing with their food, running into the street, and destroying the house–you’ll most likely find her writing.
She loves anything book, coffee or dark chocolate related and can’t think of a better way to pass the time than to combine all three. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t addicted to reading or creating her own stories, if only in her head. It wasn’t until recently that she began to believe she could actually put those stories to “paper”.
She is blessed enough to have wonderfully supportive family and friends and she counts herself lucky every day that she gets to not only be a stay at home mom to her kids, but to also pursue her dream of becoming a published author.
