Love between a young man with a broken mind and the jaded New Vampire Justice officer who cares for him might be the last hope to stop a human-vampire war….
Justin Masters is stuck in a nightmare. Waking after seven years in a catatonic state, he falls desperately in love with the straight NVJ officer who saved him. Between that and dreams of being tortured and taking pleasure in the pain, which bleed into his waking hours, Justin’s sure he’s starting to crack.
The growing unrest in the vampire world should be Max Kincaid’s focus, but Justin’s struggle, along with Max’s confusing feelings for his ward, have him reeling. When Justin’s attacked, his resulting needs might be more than Max can fulfill, but he’ll be damned if anyone else will touch Justin.
As the NVJ investigates humans missing from a high-end bite club, they uncover a deeper plot that traces back to Justin. If those who want him have their way, there will be bloodshed. Justin and Max are in a fight to save Justin not only from those who would use him, but from his own mind.
Up Coming Release Spotlight with Jake C Wallace
We are here today to talk about A Chance for Us: New Vampire Justice Book 2. What can you tell us about your newest release?
This is the second book in the New Vampire Justice series. Book 1 is Dare to Love Forever. New Vampire Justice is the law enforcement agency tasked with policing vampires, equivalent to human police, in a world where vampires live beside humans. Vampires aren’t the superhuman, preternatural creatures portrayed by popular media, legends and stories. Vampires are a result of evolution, essentially human but with a need for certain blood proteins to survive. Human blood is not necessary due to the advent of synthetic blood. Biting is illegal, except in highly-policed specialized clubs. Vampires are no threat to the Nons (non-vampires).
Despite living and working among the Nons, vampires are third class citizens. They are targets of violence, discrimination, and are viewed by some as less than human. Vampires want equal rights, the same rights as Nons. But not all vampires want equality. Some vampires feel theirs is the dominate race and they should possess the power of the Nons. Their attempts to gain this power increases the tensions between the races. Amid this chaos, the officers of NVJ must keep the peace between vampires and humans, which is becoming more impossible by the day.
To understand what is happening in this book, Dare to Love Forever should be read first.
Please tell us more about our main characters.
Justin and Max are the second couple in the series. Justin was the first love of Carson (Dare to Love Forever) when they were teens. Carson was kidnapped and Justin was taken as well to show proof of Carson’s powers. Their captors forced Carson to bite Justin, leaving in a catatonic state for seven years.
Max is the best friend of Lincoln (Dare to Love Forever) and a lieutenant in the NVJ. His mission in the first book was to retrieve Justin for his protection. Max and his team are ambushed and held. This is where Max finds Justin, and cares for him as he starts to emerge from his mind and wake up. Max takes him in and from there their love blossoms.
Is there more to this series? If so who will we hear from next?
Book 3 is under way. This will be Tommy and Doc’s story and there will be many surprises revealed about each along the way.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?
Read, read, read everything and anything, especially in the genre you want to write. Write daily and then edit over and over. Writing is definitely in the rewrite. Listen to those authors already in the genre. They are your most valuable resources when seeking to get published. And when you do get published, you will most likely be disappointed that you aren’t an instant success. With self-publishing and Amazon’s reach into the book selling marketplace, you got to be persistent and publish a lot.
What part of a new story comes to you first? Characters? Plot? A scene? A theme? Or does it vary from book to book?
It varies. Some books come from an idea and I just start writing. Sometimes the idea morphs and changes. I don’t think I’ve every started a story based on a character.
Do you ever abandon a draft partly written and just move on? Do you keep a file of plot ideas?
I have temporarily abandoned drafts that have stalled or I’ve lost interest in and usually go back and finish them or cut them up and reconfigure.
I do have a file of plot ideas, names, links to interesting articles, and titles. So many ideas and so little time.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
So many awesome ones to choose from. I think the ability to freeze time, because there are times when I just need a minute to breathe.
If you had to be a cat, dog, or a rat, which would you choose and why?

About Jake C Wallace
Formerly, I wrote under JC Wallace, but recently decided to use my full name. I have been writing all of my life but didn’t start publishing until 2014. In my day job, I am a behavior analyst. At night and on the weekends, I write about all things men. I believe there is nothing hotter than two men finding and loving one another, whether for a night or forever. An avid reader of M/M romance, I love a good twist of a plot, HEA, HFN, or tragic ending.
I am owned by my beautiful partner, three kids and two grandchildren. I live in Northern Vermont.
