Football season is over, and in the wake of a tumultuous year, Lee and Dev decide to take this quiet time to think about their relationship. But as their friends and family draw the couple into their own issues, the offseason becomes anything but quiet. Watching the failures and successes of the relationships close to them gives fox and tiger a lot to think about, but they must decide for themselves whether their love is strong enough to overcome the obstacles in their way—namely, each other.
I’ve been wanting to try a Kyell Gold book for a while and when I saw this audio book I jumped at the chance to review.
One problem: I didn’t do my homework and didn’t realize this was the fifth (and final?) book in the series. That could’ve been a major mistake and made it hard to enjoy the story. Turns out, Gold is a good enough author that I was able to feel the characters emotions and care for them in just a short time.
And he did without a major info dump. Gold parcels out the information regarding Lee and Dev at just the right lengths, presenting new information with the old.
I was interested in how the fact that these characters aren’t men but rather a fox and a tiger would play into the story. The answer: Perfectly. The fact that they’re animals doesn’t overtake the story and most of the time they’re just like regular guys; jealous and insecure and horny and passionate. Even the sex scenes don’t come across all that differently than with most gay romances.
If you were considering giving this series a read I’d recommend it. Though, unlike me, you might want to start on book one. I’ll be doing that.
Jeremy Sewell did a decent, if not great, job with the narration here. There could’ve been differences in the voices but considering this is book five in the series I’m sure he was staying consistent with the prior books.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
