Sam’s Café Romances: Book One
Russell Pine comes to Sam’s Café every morning to enjoy the best coffee in town and to chat with Sam Tesh, the owner, a loyal friend for the past twenty years. When Sam offers him a challenge, Russ reluctantly takes it on, acting as the master opponent in a chess tournament. As the days pass and the hopefuls fall to the chess mastermind one by one, Russ discovers that the contest isn’t the only game being played.
Russ finds himself the focus of a secret courtship through words and pictures left for him to discover each morning. Will a hint of cologne on the paper lead him to his admirer? In a café full of young and beautiful minds, who is looking at the graying chess master?

I LOVED THIS ROMANCE. The writing style was fantastic and emphasized the overall emotional feel of this story. Russ and Justin are both broken men. They are both grieving and healing and their crushes are cute. This story was short but both men opened their hearts and found a new way to love. They made each other whole.
What I really loved about this story was that it was emotional from the opening lines and never strayed. All of the men, even Sam, were unashamedly hurt and unashamedly willing to talk about those hurts. These three men formed a strand alliance and even though the romance is between Russ and Justin, Sam was huge influence and I am so glad the author gave him so much page time.
This story just worked really well for me. Yes it was fast, and yes there were times I flinched a bit, but the way everything came together and worked together made this a 5 star read for me. I felt the author handled this perfectly to give me everything I needed to love this romance right alongside the characters. I will be starting book 2 ASAP.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
