Ever since Gabriel Foster started working at Demerchant Industries, he’d been fighting his attraction to his enigmatic boss, Sébastien Demerchant.
During a Christmas party at Sébastien’s mansion, Gabriel discovers his feelings might be returned. But everything is not as it appears, and Gabriel’s world will be turned upside down in the process.
Beware: This review contains spoilers.
This was a hard review to write because while I didn’t love it I think it is a book others would enjoy.
It would be pretty damn near impossible to write about this story without mentioning the surprise.
At a Christmas party Gabriel Foster is checking out the residence of his boss, Sébastien Demerchant. He finds a painting that draws him in though he doesn’t know why. That night he has a dream of two men in the 1700s, but it feels more than a dream.
Gabe has been fighting his attraction to his Sebastien for a while, though I don’t know why. He stops resisting when he learns that he and Sebastien have been lovers in past lives. Turns out they’re a pair of star-crossed lovers fated to meet each other in each life. For some reason Sebastien remembers their past connection in each life but Gabe doesn’t.
One of my biggest issues in the story is that we’re told that Gabe and Sebastien are meant to always love each other, but we’re not shown it. It may have worked better as a longer story where we see Gabe and Sebastien falling in love before the truth is revealed. As it was I just didn’t buy into their fated love.
I don’t have any complaints about the writing whatsoever, just the plot. And I think this story might be one that others will love.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
