Farewell 2016 ~ Outside the Margins with Sue Brown

  1. How I will not miss thee. I think I’m not the only one to say this.

Well, that’s not quite true. Professionally and personally it’s been a good year.

It’s been a calm time in the Brown household and I am so grateful after a few rocky years. The kids are fine, the family is fine and the doggies are great too. My house is falling around my ears, so I’m hoping 2017 will be the year I can start investing more money into it.

I received a wonderful card this Christmas, by Brooke Albrecht, featuring two very familiar doggies sleeping on my red sofa. This will be framed and on my wall very soon.

Although I’ve only put five books out in 2016 (four solo and one anthology), three of the books did very well compared to the last couple of years, and that makes me (and my bank account) very happy. Thank you to everyone who bought my books. I also had several translations out which bumped up the royalties. Again, thank you.

Politically, I have been severely disappointed in humanity. That is all I’m going to say.

Personalities (yes, I thought of a P!) have been dropping like flies. Starting with David Bowie and Alan Rickman, Victoria Wood, Anton Yelchin, Prince, Glenn Frey, Rick Parfitt, and now George Michael and Carrie Fisher… the list is sad and endless.

Next year I’m fifty. Yep, the big 5-0! Does it make me think of my own mortality? Hell yes, but I intend to celebrate my fiftieth year from January to December, in between writing, working and walking the doggies.

This is my last Outside the Margins. Thank you, Brandilyn and Prism for hosting me.  I wish you a very Happy New Year and success and happiness in 2017.

Jake Tyler walked out of Covert Ops two years ago, a devastated, broken man after he discovered his sister brutally murdered by her husband, Riley. Since then he’s found a kind of peace running a rural bar. The last thing Jake Tyler expects is his former team to turn up with grim news. Jake’s ex-brother-in-law has escaped from prison and is heading Jake’s way. The team is here to protect Jake, whether he likes it or not – a decision reluctantly shared by their leader, Jake’s ex-lover Mitch Mitchelson.

Mitch is angry and hurting. The man he trusted – the man he adored more than anything – abandoned both his team and Mitch. Jake never gave Mitch a chance to help or come to terms with his desertion. Regardless of mission protocols, Mitch isn’t about to open his heart again to that kind of pain.

But the strong attraction between them can’t be denied. How are they ever going to work together when Mitch still resents Jake’s disappearance, and to Jake, the team represents everything that destroyed him in the first place? And meantime they wait for Riley to find them… and to settle the threat once and for all.
