Author: Victoria Sue
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: Angtsy G
Genre: Gay Romance
Release Date: 12/02/2016
Talon Valdez knew that when he transformed into an enhanced human, his life and his dreams were finished. Reviled, mistrusted, and often locked away, the enhanced are viewed as monsters, despised by the public, and never trusted to serve in the military or any law enforcement agency.
Years later he gets a chance to set up a task force of enhanced to serve in the FBI, but with one proviso: each enhanced must partner with a regular human.
Finn Mayer dreamed of joining the FBI since he was fourteen and made every possible sacrifice to make it happen, including living with his selfish mother and bullying homophobic brother and never having a boyfriend. But his undiagnosed dyslexia stopped his aspirations dead in their tracks. His last chance is to partner with Talon, an enhanced with fatal abilities who doesn’t trust regular humans with their secrets and wants Finn to fail.
Four weeks to prove himself to the team. Four weeks for the team to prove itself to the public. And when another group threatens their success—and their lives are at stake—four weeks for them to survive.
Radio Interview with one of the HEROs of Five Minutes Longer
Interviewer: Hi, and welcome everyone. So, you’ve seen them in action. Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past thirty years knows we have some unique individuals living amongst us, and I’m very lucky to be able to interview Gael Peterson, enhanced, and one of the leading members of the new team of HEROs. Gael, welcome to radio 9120 Tampa Tribute
Gael: Thanks, it’s good to be here.
Interviewer: I guess my first question is – why Tampa? Not that we don’t all love our city, but usually task force initiatives like this would be set up in New York, or Washington, or maybe even Los Angeles.
Gael: It’s because we all love Disney, and the traffic in Orlando is a bitch.
Gael: (grinning) I’m kidding! Actually it’s simple coincidence. Our A-SAC
Interviewer: (interrupting) A-SAC?
Gael: Assistant Special Agent in-Charge Tony Gregory met Vance and Talon when they were working private security a little over two years ago.
Interviewer: Whoa, go back a little. For the benefit of our listeners who are Vance and Talon?
Gael: Talon Valdez our team leader, and Vance Connelly. As you know the enhanced aren’t allowed to join any sort of law enforcement agency…
Interviewer: Up to now
Gael: Exactly. Well Vance and Talon had a job at the docks and were helping to unload containers. What neither they or their boss knew was the containers had illegal guns being shipped south for one of the cartels. The cops were there for a raid and things got ugly real fast. Both Talon and Vance helped the detectives on scene.
Interviewer: When you say “helped” I think you are referring to your team leader actually managing to render unconscious the guy who had a gun to the cop’s head and was likely going to shoot him?
Gael: Yeah, and the cop concerned knew Gregory. Told him how Talon had saved his life, and that’s how it started. Gregory got the funding for an experimental team, and here we are.
Interviewer: Can you tell me a little about your abilities?
Gael: I can translate every known language known to man without ever learning it.
Interviewer: I’m surprised they didn’t want you for the foreign office
Gael: We’re not allowed passports. (Smirks) They think we’ll blow the plane up or some shit.
Interviewer: You can blow things up?
Interviewer: I did hear rumors that languages aren’t your only ability though?
Gael: (shrugs) You shouldn’t listen to rumors.
Interviewer: Okay then, maybe you can tell us about yourself? I understand you have a brother in college? Any other family?
Gael: (stares at the interviewer) No.
Interviewer: I appreciate this might be distressing but wasn’t there an incident involving a fire? I believe child services became involved… your scar?
Gael: (stands) And I believe this interview is over.
Interviewer: But don’t you want an opportunity to put your side of the story? Reassure the public?
(sounds of a door closing)
Interviewer: Well, I hope we can get another of our HEROs back soon as Radio 9120 Tampa Tribute, but in the meantime let’s listen to Mariah Carey and her song – Hero.
Anything from my backlist.
About the Author
Victoria Sue… Wrote her first book on a dare from her hubby two years ago and he says he has regretted it every day since. Loves writing about gorgeous boys loving each other the best—especially with either a paranormal or a historical twist. Had a try at writing contemporary but failed spectacularly when it grew four legs and a tail. Loves her wolves! Is an English northern lass but is currently serving twenty to life in Florida—unfortunately, she spends more time chained to her computer than on a beach. Loves to hear from her readers and can be found most days lurking on Facebook.
