Sam Stone has been secretly in love with his best friend and fellow Marine, Benoit, for a long time. It’s only after they were captured by a Taliban Warlord that he realizes that he would readily give his life to get Benoit back to his family. P.O.W. by Max Vos
Recent Release Spotlight with Max Vos.
We are here today to talk about P.O.W. What can you tell us about it?
I saw a report from Anderson Cooper during the Spring Uprising in the Middle East. It was the topic of his report that gripped me and wouldn’t let go. I had to write that story. It was a hard story to write and there were times it gave me nightmares. It won’t be for everyone. It’s rather brutal. There’s nothing sweet or fluffy here. There are several ménage scenes which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it was needed to move the story along.
Please tell us more about our main characters.
Samuel Stone, a Marine who happens to be gay. He also happens to be in love, or so he thinks, with his best friend, a fellow Marine. He takes on the world to protect his friend and those he is responsible for. I really liked this character. He’s a real stand-up guy.
What about P.O.W. makes you the proudest?
As difficult as it was to write, it practically wrote itself. The characters in this book are so vivid to me. I think anyone who picks up this book is going to feel these guys long after they finish the book. Again, I can’t stress it enough… this book is a hard read and won’t be for everyone.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?
Write each and every day, even if it is just a few words.
What part of writing a book comes the hardest for you?
Finishing it. The worst is proofreading. By the time a book is released, I’m sick of it.
What tool do you use to plan scenes? (such as index cards, white board, ouiji board, etc)
Pfft… I have no idea where a scene is going. The characters write it. I’m just along for the ride.
What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?
Right now I’m having a love affair with A.E. Via. I have a few Clive Cussler books sitting next to the bed, but I’m thinking I might go with Armistead Maupin or Greg Herren. I’m feeling a bit nostalgic.
Rapid Fire Time
Batman or Superman? Batman. He has the best costume and cool gadgets
Salt or Pepper? Both!
Neville or Ron? Oh Neville for sure. He’s hot!
Pickup Truck or Sedan? Pickup. I need a place to put mulch.
Hawaii or Colorado? Hawaii. I hate cold weather and love tropical plants.
Hot Air Balloon or Blimp? Blimp. They have a bar.
Top or Bottom? None of your beeswax.
Ice Skating or Ice Hockey? Neither. I hate the cold.
Underwear and socks: folded in the drawer or tossed? I’m so OCD. They are not only folded but color coordinated and all facing the same direction.
Boxers or Briefs? I hate underwear.
Long or Short? Huh?
What are you working on? I’m working a few things. I don’t like giving too much away until they’re done.
What is next? I’m not afraid to tackle hard topics, like P.O.W., so… one of them might be a little sensitive.
