Watching Jude’s cam show stirs desires Shawn’s always denied…
Shawn is adrift. Recently graduated, he’s stuck in a dead-end job that barely pays the bills. His girlfriend dumped him, his friends have moved on, and he’s still in Plymouth—going nowhere.
Jude is a student living in the same shared house. Out and proud, he’s everything Shawn’s been running from since he hit puberty. When Shawn discovers Jude works as a cam boy, he can’t resist the urge to watch one of his shows. It makes Shawn want things that scare him, yet his fascination forces him to confront his attraction.
Keen to explore his bicurious side, Shawn suggests they do a show together. Jude agrees, and things get complicated—and kinky—fast. But Jude isn’t looking to get involved with someone so deep in the closet. If Shawn’s going to get what he wants, he needs to find the courage to stop hiding from himself and be honest about who he is.
Length: 52,000 words approx.
Although this book is part of the Housemates series, it has new main characters, a satisfying happy ending, and can be read as a standalone
Watching and Wanting was another entertaining tale from Jay Northcote’s Housemates series. I’ve enjoyed all the books and these guys might just be my favorite couple, except the boys from book one.
Northcote is adept at taking common tropes and elevating them to something more. He creates memorable couples and this was a realistic take on a young man discovering a new side of his bisexuality.
Shawn has been part of the series since the very beginning and has lived with his housemates as they fall in love with men. He’s always seen himself as straight until he learns housemate Jude does a cam show and he’s unable to not watch. Shawn is not only enthralled with Jude’s jack off show he is supremely turned on.
I liked how Shawn just went with his feelings when he watched Jude and let himself be turned on by what he sees. He isn’t comfortable with any labels at first but that doesn’t stop him from pleasuring himself while watching Jude, including touching his butt hole.
Jude has always been attracted to Shawn and jumps at the chance when Shawn offers to join him on a cam show. It’s a new take on the Straight Guy Does Porn and Turns Gay trope but it’s done right. Shawn isn’t suddenly gay; there’s a progression from straight to bi-curious and then to accepting the fact that he’s bisexual.
There was a lot of smoking hot sex scenes here but that’s how Jude and Shawn’s feelings are shown. Until Shawn is able to accept his new desires all these two men have is the cam show. But the hottest scene was when the men play around for the first time when the camera is off. The BDSM-lite stuff was also done very well.
Thankfully the conflict between them didn’t last long and Shawn’s declaration at the club was extremely romantic.
This has been a great series and I’ve enjoyed them all. I love how they can all be read separately as well as in sequence.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
