An Interview with Cal Cozzi and Michael Rodgers, the leading characters in COZZI COVE: STEPPING OUT, the third novel in the Cozzi Cove series by Joe Cosentino, published by NineStar Press

Joe: Hi, Cal and Michael. Thank you for joining me in this interview.

Cal: It’s great to get out of your head for a while, Joe.

Michael: Ditto.

Joe: As the stars of my Cozzi Cove beach series, tell the readers about the magical, romantic, and fascinating place called Cozzi Cove on the New Jersey shore.

Michael: Go for it, Cal. It’s named after you.

Cal: My great-grandfather built the eight bungalows on the private cove with an amazing view of the bay and lighthouse in the distance. The main beach and boardwalk are only a mile away. Sensing my sexual orientation as a boy, my father opened Cozzi Cove as a gay resort. After he passed on, I was proud to carry on the tradition.

Michael: It’s a cozy place. No pun intended.

Cal: Keep it up, Michael, and I’ll show you just how cozy it is when we get back to our bungalow.

Michael: I’ll hold you to that, literally.

Joe: Save it for the books, guys. Tell the readers what is a cove.

Cal: Go for it, college boy.

Michael: The bungalows on Cozzi Cove are set on a stretch of cove formed when softer rocks were worn away by the sun and salty water faster than the harder rocks surrounding them. This created a gorgeous bay of turquoise water shielded by large rocks in the distance and smaller rocks near the water’s edge.

Joe: After Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back (TBR Pile Favorite Book of the Month/Rainbow Award Honorable Mention) and Cozzi Cove: Moving Forward released, readers and reviewers praised their romantic, humorous, dramatic, mysterious style, and interwoven captivating stories.

Michael: They liked us! They really liked us!

Joe: They sure did. So I wrote Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out. As with the first two books, romance is everywhere on Cozzi Cove, and nothing is what it seems. It was like visiting good old friends to further develop the characters in book three. Guys, tell them the storyline of Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out?

Michael: Handsome and sexy ex-football player Cal Cozzi is now thirty-one years old, and still enjoying his role as owner and manager of his family’s guest bungalows.

Cal: My lover of two years, Michael Rodgers, a college student with exotic eyes and a toned body, landed at my doorstep and the two of us have never looked back.

Michael: Except when Cal speaks to the ghost of his deceased husband of six years.

Joe: In this book you two reach a plateau in your relationship.

Cal: That’s Cozzi Cove, just when you think you’ve figured it out, there’s a game changer. But don’t give it away, Joe. On to the next character. Connor, the college student assisting me, is still packed with muscles and hormones. He also still revels in Cozzi Cove, and in checking out each resident for a possible fling on the cove—which he occasionally enjoys and thinks I don’t see. In book three, Connor becomes the subject of a handsome young psychologist’s study on human sexuality with unexpected results. Tell them about your boss, Michael.

Michael: Tommy, the bald, muscular, tattooed resident of Cozzi Cove who owns the local bar has held a torch for Cal since high school. Who can blame him. Look at that face!

Cal: Keep going.

Michael: George, Cal’s half-brother, helped Cal renovate Cozzi Cove. Both Tommy and George meet someone from their pasts and are off to a wild adventure in this book.

Cal: My sister, Taylor, drops in from Rome, Paris, Wall Street, or Palm Springs as usual. As a type A personality and top one-percenter, the world revolves around her, which makes her hysterically funny. She is also incredibly devoted to me, which I like. We learn something shocking about Taylor’s past in this book, and she goes through some pretty emotional experiences. Lucky for Taylor her best friend, Cozzi restauranteur Carla Mangione, is there for support.

Michael: Bill, a disbelieving pastor, sees a vision of two sexy male angels on the cove, which leads him to start a new life.

Cal: What secrets, humor, tragedy, mysteries, and passions lie in the magical place called Cozzi Cove?

Joe: What do you think is the moral of the story?

Cal: Don’t you know? You wrote it.

Michael: I think the moral is that it’s important to step out. Take a chance on love.

Cal: You move to the head of the class.

Michael: But you can still be on top.

Joe: I also like the message about accepting one’s self and others. In particular, that religious freedom means freedom to practice your religion, not to discriminate against others. Michael, who is your favorite character?

Michael: Cal of course. I love Cal’s honesty, courage in the face of adversity, and devotion to his family, friends, and guests.

Cal: I didn’t pay him to say that.

Joe: How about you Cal?

Cal: Michael. He is adorable, loyal, and sassy as all hell, which totally floats my boat. Now I have a question for you, Joe. Am I based on you? Is Michael based on your husband? Taylor on your sister?

Joe: A few traits here and there, but we’re very different, though my sister is opinionated like Taylor. Harold (An Infatuation), Jonathan (A Shooting Star), and Bobby (A Home for the Holidays) have many of my traits. Stuart (An Infatuation) and Barry (A Shooting Star) are based on my spouse.

Michael: Will there be more Cozzi Cove novels?

Cal: I sure hope so. I really like the humor, mystery, plot twists and turns, and the surprise endings in the stories They really keep us on our toes.

Joe: Good, because Cozzi Cove: New Beginnings releases on March 27.

Michael: Great! Do you see Cozzi Cove as a television series?

Joe: Totally. Make me an offer, producers! I want to play Pastor Bill Gayton in this story.

Cal: Who do you see playing us?

Joe: Matt Bomer and Corbin Bleu. Back to the interview. How do you guys feel regarding people reading about your love lives?

Cal: Lovemaking is a part of life, so it makes sense to include love scenes in novels. The love scenes in our books are sweet, sexy, and touching. Like Michael and me.

Michael: How do you feel, Joe, when you read the books?

Joe: I just reread Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out and laughed, cried, gasped, and felt romantic.

Cal: That remind me. It’s time to get back to Cozzi Cove. Tell the readers how they can reach Michael and me.

Joe: Through me at: http://www.JoeCosentino.weebly.com

Cal: So grab your Speedos, suntan lotion, and shades and head back to Cozzi Cove.

Michael: Cal and I have a bungalow waiting just for you.

Joe: I hope to see you all there!

An Excerpt of Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out by Joe Cosentino published by NineStar Press:

Cal sat puzzling over his most recent guest when Connor O’Riley rushed into the bungalow, his muscles bulging out of his skintight white T-shirt and short-shorts. “I know. I’m sorry.”

Cal glanced at his watch. “It’s the first day of the season.”

“There were extenuating circumstances.”

Cal had heard it all before. “Did you run into a busload of football players, or a soccer team, or a group of priests on religious retreat?”

The twenty-one-year-old college student batted his long eyelashes. “I was driving here in my jeep when the most amazing man I have ever seen in my life whistled. Tall, rippling with muscles, jet-black hair, and violet eyes. Like a god from another planet―the planet of Gorgeousness. So I pulled up next to him at the curb and thanked him for whistling at me. He explained that he was whistling for his dog, a German shepherd that then licked my hand.” Connor fluffed his curly red hair. “I petted the dog and then asked the guy to join me on a park bench for a little ‘morning mayhem.’ To my delight, the god agreed and tied the dog to a tree nearby. As things got hot and heavy between the god and me, the dog started to whine. With me down on my knees in front of him, the guy explained that the dog didn’t like being tied up.” Connor giggled. “When I told him I did, he used the dog’s leash to tie me to the bench. Then, to my delight, he pulled off my T-shirt and shorts. Hanging over the bench, I closed my eyes and was totally turned on by his thick, warm tongue in my ear, on my neck, down my back and at my crack. I screamed with pleasure when he worked his way to my groin, licking me like I’ve never been licked before. I was in ecstasy. Until I looked in front of me and saw the guy, who had come back from taking a pee in the woods, walking toward me while putting on a condom. When I looked behind me, the dog had a devious look on his face.”

“And that’s why you’re late?”

“No! I’m late because the guy took over, and I had the best sex of my life!”

Since Connor had worked for Cal starting at eighteen years old, he was like family, so Cal was hesitant to fire him. Besides, he was a good worker. When Connor had his mind on working and not screwing. “Connor, I’m only going to say this once. You can never be late again. You need to be here when the guests arrive, for turndown service, to make up their rooms each morning, and when they check out. Do you understand me?”

“Totally.” Connor’s aqua eyes sparkled. “The most amazing-looking gay porn star could be standing naked on the road, trying to flag me down, and I’ll keep driving.” He unsuccessfully attempted a business-like manner. “Have any of the guests arrived yet?”

Cal nodded. “My brother is staying in Bungalow Seven. And a Dr. Aaron Weiss checked into Bungalow One.”

“A doctor!” Connor felt his forehead. “I think I’m coming down with something.”

“Just make sure you don’t go down on something. And there’s a woman in Bungalow Four.”

“How gauche.”

“Oh, and my sister is staying in my back bedroom.”

“Yikes. For how long?”

“I’m not sure.”

“She’ll have you hopping for her as much as I do for you.”

“When was it that you were hopping for me?”

Connor leaned on the desk, and his biceps expanded. “Didn’t I do a good job cleaning, airing out, and stocking the bungalows yesterday?”

“Yeah, but you forgot to rake the pebbles around the bungalows, and the sand at the cove. Michael did it last night while I watered the flowers and cleaned all the hot tubs.”

Connor looked around. “Where is your young stud?”

“At school.” Cal leaned into Connor. “And where Michael is has nothing to do with you. Understand?”

“Of course.”

“Now go to the supply bin out front and make sure it’s stocked with towels and kitchen and bathroom supplies.”

Connor took a few steps toward the door and then stopped, turning toward Cal. “Is your brother single?”

“Go!”

“How about the doctor in Bungalow One?”

“I mean it, Connor!”

“Imagine a beautiful getaway where the hot, sexy, and wealthy gay men go…it’s a place where there’s never a dull moment. Every page of this new title brings readers nothing but excitement, intrigue, and an intensity that will burn away the night’s quiet. Most novels offer readers one journey in which readers travel upon, however, readers are brought not one but several journeys that will leave them breathless and hooked. As with all of Joe Cosentino’s novels, humor comes in abundance and fits in perfectly with all of this stunning characters.” “Joe sweeps his readers into his characters’ lives by creating realistic characters with real issues. It’s easy to get lost in it all. The book automatically captures your heart from page one and forever holds it. After reading the story, readers will be begging for the next grand adventure. Funny, heart melting, and swoon worthy, readers will finish reading this in one sitting. I loved reading this riveting tale, and I highly recommend it to readers everywhere.” Urban Book Reviews

“The beautiful scenery and all around magical quality of Cozzi Cove is hard to resist…This is a fun, often lighthearted story, whose sweet sexy vibe makes for a great escape.” Coffeetime Romance

Praise for COZZI COVE: BOUNCING BACK, the first Cozzi Cove novel (Rainbow Award Honorable Mention/TBR Pile Favorite Book of the Month):

“Heartbreaking and heartwarming, sweet beginnings for some, sour endings for others, emotions jumping off the page as you turn eagerly to read more, welcome to Cozzi Cove. The author measured his scales to perfection in delivering the perfect balance of love, laughter and tears in this sexy, fun filled holiday romance entwined with some sadness. “If you like a lot of angst, some humor, love, sadness (be sure to have a couple of boxes of tissue handy), and some hot sensual man-sex, I highly, highly recommend this book. I loved all of the Joe Cosentino’s books, but I think this is my favorite to date! I am ready for book 2!” Cathy Brockman Romance & MM Good Book Reviews

“Joe Cosentino has the amazing ability to combine heartwarming, feel good moments with droll, sometimes biting humor, along with insights into the frailties and peccadillos of being human.” “Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back is the very finest in literary fiction with a romance theme, yet it’s more than just that—it’s about human connections and empathy and finding a way out of the fear and inertia faced by so many. It’s also about courage and strength, about respect and coming to terms with all that life has to offer, and it’s about letting go. I loved this book and look forward to the next in the series. This is a highly recommended read, well-deserving of Five Stars.” GGR Reviews

“readers will meet a variety of characters that creates a soap opera intrigue, unlike any other novel read. This story will definitely keep readers guessing with every page. Only when readers reach the last page does everything become known. It’s addictive. Cozzi Cove is a brand new series that will keep Joe Cosentino’s readers on their toes and begging for more. I laughed, cried, and fell in love with this latest novel.” Urban Book Reviews

  1. I don’t particularly like the beach but I love the boardwalk so many things to see and food to enjoy. Not to add in the games that you can immerse yourself in.

  2. I love watching the sea. That’s why I love going to the beach, specially those places where nobody goes because they are too dangerous (which is quite common in my area). Because I love sitting there and just watching the sea. It is inspiring.
