Jameson Havercamp, a psych from a conservative religious colony, has come to Oberon—unique among the Common Worlds—in search of a rare substance called pith. He’s guided through the wilds on his quest by Xander Kinnson, a handsome, cocky skythane with a troubled past.
Neither knows that Oberon is facing imminent destruction. Even as the world starts to fall apart around them, they have no idea what’s coming—or the bond that will develop between them as they race to avert a cataclysm.
Together, they will journey to uncover the secrets of this strange and singular world, even as it takes them beyond the bounds of reality itself to discover what truly binds them together.
What an awesome start to a new series! I loved the world and its characters. I want to start off by saying be sure to take the time and read the Author’s Note: it gives some insight into the story. The only thing missing in the story from the teasers is the gay sex… for which I was a little disappointed. I so wanted to see these two together on page.
The worlds of Oberon and Titania are imaginative and compelling. The details are richly told without being overly flowery in language. I loved that it wasn’t a planet with only one city, as you so often see. I also loved that the planet wasn’t a mini earth but had unique plants and animals. I appreciated that they weren’t likened to earth creatures except in the glossary. It helped immerse me in these worlds.
Xander, Jameson, and Quince all have parts to play in this tale. It was great getting to know more about them. I loved seeing both Jameson and Xander grow as individuals.
For the most part, the points of view were clearly identified, although there were a few spots of head hoping. Each had a distinct voice within the book.
Although it is not listed as a series, the book ends with one chapter of the saga completed and a teaser for more. I can’t wait to read the rest of the story!!!
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
